Kinder Scout (Dad's final resting place).

We scattered Dad's ashes on the stunning hills of Kinder Scout, above Manchester.
When we'd finished, a blizzard swept through and left us a little concerned for our safety, what with high winds, sleet, rain and a hike back down to the pub to contend with.
Beautiful day though!

Dumpstertape#1

I took the tape I used to mask a series of paintings I had been working on and laid them out
in rows. I was amazed by the vibrance of the colors emerging on the (nearly) discarded tape so
I turned it into a piece in its own right.

This was created on panel board using the sun-dried, rusty nail technique of the next few pieces.

Another in a series of weathered materials.
I left this panel outside on the deck for 3 weeks and the rusty nail vinegar combination made for some interesting colors.

Weathered wood

A new direction for me based on an idea by brother Paul.
This landscape was created using the elements and "found objects."
Old rusty nails and cups of tea (poured over the piece) add to the color and texture,
the wood is then left outside to the mercy of the elements. This piece was placed on the deck for 3 weeks.

Tattoo Jesus

This has an interesting story attached to it. I was driving by a church in Kansas City and noted that they had a pile of junk on the side of the road. On closer inspection I found this old print of the 'bearded one' sat in the dust! Unbelievable.
So I did some recycling of the work myself!
Mixed media. Old print and sharpie pen. 18"x12".

I revisited my photo-realistic roots for this one. I wanted to capture a portrait of someone in an ultra-real manner.
Number 2 daughter (by age!)Meghan was my willing subject. I am at the stage of the painting where, even now, I'm not sure whether it's finished (or not).
I also tried using a lot more pencil in the finishing stages.

Castleton Hill

I wanted to do a landscape with a difference; I wanted to use the drama of the Pennine hills and let the viewer feel the incline of the hillside, almost as if you would fall over if you didn't take care. The traffic cones were added as a sense of direction but also disorientation to the viewer. It takes me back to my cross-country days when you followed marked courses across the fields.
